This is a rare vintage Phallocrypt which is a decorative penis sheath worn in parts of New Guinea during traditional ceremonies. They are usually made out of gourds or woven fibers and decorated with feathers, beads, cowrie shells, and small metal ornaments. Penis (Phallocrypts) were once the main clothing of many New Guinea men. Now they are worn only ceremonially although in some areas it is still the preferred mode of dress. This Penis shield is part of a long standing tradition with men in New Guinea and would be great used as decoration in your home and sure to be great conversation pieces!
