This is an Old and unique Hirz Amulet Necklace from Yemen. The Hirz is like a charm case in which Koranic verses or written and incantations are sealed to protect the wearer. The Hirz also has three bezel-set red glass stones. Red is thought to be a protective color and as such is used widely in Bedouin jewelry. The bottom of the Hirz has several dangles hanging from seven loops. Each loop is supposed to hold a double chain ending in a bell like pendant. As the wearer moves, a soft jingling sound is made by these dangles. Noise is thought to drive djin (evil spirits) away. The Hirz early designs and techniques continue to be replicated throughout Central Asia even today, and have been emulated for centuries. The Hirz pendant is adorned with silver chain. This silver is not sterling. This would be a wonderful gift to give that special someone. This necklace is beautiful and rich in culture.
