This is a lovely Chank Conch Shell Konyak Belt with Green Glass Beads strung on tribal cord from
the Naga People of Nagaland, Northern India. The Conch Shells have etched primitive figures on them. The Naga ornaments with shells are normally reserved for men who have achieved some important feat in war.The abundance of jewelry is especially visible during the elaborate Naga ceremonies. A strict control of the ornaments attribution allows to recognize the hierarchical status of each one. This shell is sometimes referred to as Sacred Chank because of its importance in both the Hindu and Buddhist . The use of Chank shell dates back 4000 years. As each tribe has its own indigenous jewellery, ornaments are very important to the Nagas, because besides fulfilling the decorative needs of the people, they serve visually to distinguish the warrior and commoner classes.
This is a beautiful Conch Shell Belt that would be a lovely addition to your collection.
