This is a beautiful Vintage Silver Brushed Hoop Earrings worn by the Fulani women of Mali. This traditional West African jewelry is created by Fulani craftsmen in Mali. One of the largest groups of nomadic herders in Africa, and the Fulani customarily wore their wealth in the form of gold jewelry that they could carry with them at all times. Fulani earrings are known as Kwottenai earrings and made of hammered brass, and these delicate earrings signify honor, status and wealth. They are received by a woman either on the death of her mother or as a gift from her husband, who often has to sell cattle to afford them. This particular size earring is made in Mali with the same craftsmanship and material with the tradition wire hoop that goes thru the ear, but an ear wire can be put on so they are more conformable to wear. The traditional Fulani West African jewelry is beautiful and would be a wonderful gift to give or to treasure and keep for yourself.
