African Endeble Beaded Lidded Gourd South Africa

$64.00

This is a beautiful Black and White Geometric Patterned Gourd Bottle with Net Woven Beads over it from South Africa. One of the most impressive things about tribal art is its ability to convert everyday raw materials into something special and beautiful. Different gourds seem ready made for different uses. Geometric patterns dominate Ndebele beadwork. The bead work strives for balance in their compositions and a harmony of color. The gourd also called a pumpkin calabash or squash, has been scooped out, and then left with a thin rind which dries hard and watertight. An ideal container in a world where there are no bottles, cans or plastic. The top is removable on the gourd. This is so unique and a wonderful item to add to your collection or display in your home or give as a gift.

Gourd shows age, but in good condition.

8" tall
5 1/2" wide top
5 3/4" wide bottom
2 1/2" around top lid
