This is a Wonderful Old Flat Bronze Tiger Tongue "Lat" Currency from Laos and Thailand that was collected around 1950. The local dialect name for tiger tongues is "lat." The general shape was popular in Laos from the 12th to the 19th century through several political entities. Tiger Tongue Currency, money or coins was issued in the Laos region of Southeast Asia from 1571-1592AD. These bronze bars were called "Tiger Tongues" because of their long, flat, tongue like shape. Tiger tongues are one of the most sought after issues of the primitive money. Some of the bronze ingots from Northeastern Thailand was also known as "boat or canoe money" or "tiger tongue, and were minted during the reign of the Kingdom of Lanchang from 1354-1709 when the kingdom split into two Laotian Kingdoms. This bronze tiger tongue or boat money is very collectible. This tiger tongue currency would be a wonderful addition to your collection or home.
