This is an exceptional Hand Carved Wood Men's House Post from the Sepik Region of Papua New Guinea. The Sepik people have unique customs and traditions, building large and elaborate spirit houses to house the good spirits. In the spirit houses we found very old artifacts along with intricate, gorgeous modern carvings made to ward off evil. The spirit house is where important village decisions are made and where boys are initiated in ceremonies involving painful scarification which resemble the river crocodiles representing strength and power. Some of these are painted in abstract designs with bold bright colors and clan symbols, as well as in some shields a human figure can be seen. The colored designs are painted in preparation in magic spells and are recited during the painting process to imbue the shield with protective power. This is a fabulous old shield that wonderful compliment your collection or home.

Returns are welcome after 3 days, please contact me upon arrival of package, and shipped within 7 days. They must be returned in the same condition that they were purchased in. Shipping is the responsibility of you the buyer. A full refund will be given when the arrives in the same condition as purchased. All international orders will not be refunded if lost, unless the buyer has purchased a signature and or insurance. We assume all responsibility on lost items sold within the United States.
