This is a Fabulous Carved Wood Savi Tribal Mask from the tribal People of Papua New Guinea. This style of mask was used in initiation ceremonies when a boy was transitioning from boyhood to manhood. This mask was attached to dance costumes and decorated with feathers, leaves and other small ornaments. Most masks weren't worn over the face, notably due to the lack of eye holes. The most powerful masks are the Savi masks, which stick out their tongue in defiance of evil clans and spirits A truly unique mask to add to your collection or home.
