This is a set of Four Vintage African Carved Ebony figures, from the Makonde Tribe of Tanzania. Ebony is an exceptionally hard and dense black beautiful wood found in East Africa. In Africa it is also known as “Mpingo”. The Makonde artisans use this wood to make these fabulous balancing statues known as "Sarakai" which means acrobat in Swahili. Their artistic output is both traditional and contemporary. When finished, the carvings are polished and the wood quite literally shines. This a fabulous ebony carved statues that truly would be a wonderful addition to your collection.
