This is an old beautiful Ancestral Spirit Mask from the Kandingai Village, Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea. This mask is intricately carved wood and decorated with expressive Conus Shell eyes and intricate clan markings. Ancestor Spirit masks are integral to the rituals and ceremonies of Papua New Guinea, and their is always a representation of an ancestral spirit, in this mask another ancestor appears at the bottom and it could be a child. This mask is also revered in the belief that they allow connection to the various spirits they represent. A wonderful one of a kind mask that was collected in the field. It would be a wonderful addition to your home or your collection.
