This is an African Kamba three legged Stool from Kenya. Among the Kamba, the men of a certain age had small tripod seats with a circular sitting, sometimes delicately carved and finely ornamented, which they carried with them everywhere and throughout their lives. The stools made were circular seats and supported by three disk-shaped legs, and hand carved from one piece of wood. Kamba stools were reserved for elderly men who carried them about to sit upon. These stools are a symbol of class of the respected elders and highly prized. Sometimes a long string of braided metal rings attached to the legs of the stool, allowed the old men to carry this precious item around his waist while walking. This would be a wonderful gift or just beautiful as home decor. Collected in the field, shows age and use.
