African Shield Bantu Tribe Woven Wood Rwanda

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a Beautiful African Wood and Plant Fiber Shield from the Bantu People of the Rwanda. These elliptical shields were used by the Bantu and made with a wooden core-structure, covered in a weave of plant fibers and are characteristically given a central protrusion in the enter of the shield. In traditional Africa, shields were used not only as defensive weapons, but also as decorative or ritual objects filled with symbolic meaning. Shields were often danced during ceremonies to commemorate certain events. These events could be important battles in the past, warrior’s funerals, or many other ceremonies both governmental and personal. This is a wonderful old shield and would be a great addition to your collection.
