This is a wonderful Vintage Hand Carved Wood Female Figure with Articulated Arms, Beaded Hide Clothing , Sandals and Hair and String Beaded Hair and Cap from Botswana. The Bushman is wearing a hanging apron in front, which may be either a semicircular piece of leather, with a number of bead attached to the belt. They use Acacia wood to carve their figures. The Bushman are the most dedicated of artists and display a high degree of integrity, never copying and still working entirely by hand, with spontaneity and a confidence in their skills. The sculpture speaks of fundamental human experiences - experiences such as grief, elation, humor, anxiety and spiritual search, which has always managed to communicate in a profound simple and direct way that is both rare and extremely refreshing. They were among the first humans to practice art. This figure would be a wonderful addition to your collection or home.
