This is a wonderful Vintage Hand Carved Wood Male Figure Hunting and Gathering with Figure carrying a Walking Stick with Articulated Arms, Beaded Hide Clothing and Pouches, Sandals and Bark Hat from Botswana. The Bushman man is carrying large bag on his back. They use Acacia wood to carve their figures. The Bushman are the most dedicated of artists and display a high degree of integrity, never copying and still working entirely by hand, with spontaneity and a confidence in their skills. The sculpture speaks of fundamental human experiences - experiences such as grief, elation, humor, anxiety and spiritual search, which has always managed to communicate in a profound simple and direct way that is both rare and extremely refreshing. They were among the first humans to practice art. This figure would be a wonderful addition to your collection or home.
