Among the Baule people of West Africa weaving is perform by men and by women. Weaving varied according to the loom type and size. In Baule culture the loom is a very important component of the tribes identity. Women and men use loom to produce bands of cloth that would be put together forming a large piece of cloth to then use for different items. These looms appear in various types and decoration according to local tradition. The shuttle houses the cotton thread which is the most important raw material available in many areas of West Africa. This is a well-used loom with a warm patina, and would be a wonderful addition to your home and collection.
