African Ndebele Tribe Beaded Gourd

Sorry, this item has sold.

This small beaded gourd was used to hold powdered snuff or small quantities of medicines or magic potions from a Shaman’s pharmacy. One of the most impressive things about tribal art is its ability to convert everyday raw materials into something special and beautiful. Consider the humble gourd for example, also called a pumpkin calabash or squash), once you have scooped the flesh out (sometimes good to eat, sometimes not), you are left with a thin rind which dries hard and watertight. An ideal container in a world where there are no bottles, cans or plastic. This is so unique and a wonderful item to display in your home or give as a gift.

Shows age, but overall in good condition.

6 Inches Tall
3 Inches Wide Top and Bottom
1 1/4 Inch Deep
