This antique Kuba Headband that was handcrafted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This headdress was placed on the forehead and tied in the back. The headband is made starting with a base of tightly woven raffia, cowrie shells and beads that are intricately woven onto the base in traditional patterns and designs. Cowrie Shells are placed on the red and brown background made of raffia and red cotton with intricate knotting and beads between each shell with knotted raffia extensions for tying on the body or head.
