This is a very unique and Old Tribal Tumbaun Mask from the Middle Sepik River in Papua New Guinea. This mask has amazing expression and detail all made out of woven basketry. Woven basketry masks are used in dances in the Abelam region of Papua New Guinea. Baba tagwa or tumbuan masks are used to frighten away uninitiated boys from initiation ceremonies, the dancers making threatening gestures and brandishing spears. I
