This is a wonderful Old Woven Bush Fiber Dream Spirit Cassowary Bird from the Iatmul Tribe Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. Dream Vehicles are woven by women from rattan and hand spun string. They can be decorated with shell eyes and feathers. Pigs, birds, crocodiles and even helicopters are kept in the rafters for the spirit to travel in while one sleeps. They are very strong and can thrash their way through the thickest bush, so if someone had to make a journey through the jungle. Other figures include crocodiles and fish and birds for going by water. They are made by the women and are used to teach clan stories and aid clan members through dreams and requests. This woven cassowary bird Dream Spirit would be wonderful for your home or to add to your collection.
