Papua New Guinea Bamboo Wood Flute Kamanibit Village

$160.00

This is a beautiful Carved and Painted Ancestor Head with Cowrie Shells and Bamboo Flute that comes from the Kamanibit Village on the Sepik River Valley of Papua New Guinea. This kind of sacred flute is played, usually in pairs, during ceremonies and initiations in the villages. They are considered to be the voices of the clans' ancestor spirits. The images on the top represents a mythic ancestor 's head and clan totems. The flute is considered a sacred instrument. Flutes in Papua New Guinea are usually much larger than western flutes, made out of lengths of hollow bamboo. They are decorated and often have a carved wooden finial at one end. This is a wonderful decorative Flute and would be a great addition to your home or collection.
