This is a beautifully Carved Wood Adze from the Boiken People in the East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. The adze was traditionally used for cutting wood, digging and removing sago from palms and were used as a tool by many cultures dating back millennia. The one key feature that distinguishes an adze from an axe is that the head is off-set to the right of the shaft. This is a beautiful and unique Old Ceremonial Carved and Adze with its unique detail and carved bird. There is no stone at the end. All ceremonial weapons and tools were made from wood, and other stones or embellishments. This adze is considered a ceremonial object and was used in dances and considered very valuable to its owner. A wonderful addition to your home and collection
