Papua New Guinea Bird Savi Mask Figure Iatmul Tribe

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a wonderful Hand Carved Bird and Man Figure is from the Iatmul Tribe of the Sepik River. They can be important clan totems and also anthropomorphic spirit beings that are half-man. This statue was kept within the ceremonial houses and played a central role in the ritual life of their communities. This Tungenjam figure has the powers of the ancestors and is considered to be a guardian mask to protect the residents of the village. This would be a fabulous mask to add to your home or collection.
