African Ndebele Beaded Dance Stick South Africa

$76.80 $96.00

This is a fabulous Ndebele Blue Beaded Dance Stick from the tribal people of Zimbabwe, South Africa. Ndebele beadwork is a centuries-old art form. It serves several functions; identification of the status of the women in society; adornment of persons and objects, especially in ceremonial dress and festivals. During the “WELA” festivities the Ndebele spend most of their time adorning themselves and attending ceremonies. In the intervals between their duties, the women perform ritual dances in the front courtyard of their homes waving bead-covered sticks called”Amandondolo”. While waving these wands they chant songs of praise to their brave sons. Beadwork among the Ndebele is cherished. For the Ndebele woman, this form of beaded art is a necessary part of her life, as well as to distinguish her from the women of other tribes. Ndebele beadwork is exciting to collect because it is still a living art. A wonderful and unique Ndebele dance stick to add to your home or collection.
