This is a lovely Carved Wood Female Nogwi Figure from the Waskuk Hills, Upper Sepik Region, Papua New Guinea. This figure is associated with the yam harvest ceremony of the Kwoma peoples. The Nogwi ritual, associated with the yam harvest ceremony, is the most secret of the Kwoma rituals. Participation is restricted to the most senior men, and is used during the third ceremony celebrating the yam harvest. This third and last ritual is reserved to the initiated people. A very unique statue to dd to your collection or home.
