This is a Vintage and Very Rare Wood Ritual Female/Male Two Faced Articulated Temple Doll. This ritual doll was used by several Chinese ethnic minority cultures, including the Miao, Yao and Naxi. Old fertility dolls were hand carved, anatomically correct and with pegged and jointed limbs. The styles and head gear would vary depending on the minority group. Dolls representing the hopeful parents to be and traditionally the son that was wished for were consecrated by the shaman and taken home from the temple. After a child was born, the child doll would be returned to the temple. A truly One of a Kind item that is very hard to find that would adorn your home or add to your collection.
