Papua New Guinea Stool Abelam Tribe Clan Symbols

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a fabulous large Old and Unusual Yellow and Orange Carved Wood Ceremonial Stool from the Abelam Tribal People of the Maprik Region of East Sepik in Papua New Guinea. This stool is carved out of a single piece of wood, and it shows designs and patterns typical for that region. Stools of this type were only used by high-ranking tribal officials; most likely an orator or someone affiliated with the village council. The craftsmanship is beautiful and decorated with clan symbols and natural ochre paints. These stools are made by master carvers within the tribe. A fabulous addition to your collection or home.
