The Iatmul create some of the most important array of carvings and all believed to be inhabited by very powerful spirits. Yam is a very import food essential in the the diet of all Papua New Guineans. All kinds of elaborate yam masks, statues and ceremonies are created to protect and watch over the fields to ensure a productive harvest.
