This is a unique Pair of African Vintage Abstract Design Ebony Candle Holders from the Makonde Tribe of Tanzania. Ebony is an exceptionally hard and dense black beautiful wood found in East Africa. In Africa it is also known as “Mpingo”. Ebony wood is one of the most intensely black woods known, which combined with its very high density, fine texture, and the ability to polish it very smoothly, has made it very valuable. The Makonde tribe in Tanzania (East Africa) uses this wood to make carvings, known as “Makonde carvings”. Their artistic output is both traditional and contemporary, and functional. When finished, the carvings are polished and the wood quite literally shines. This a beautiful Makonde Ebony Candle Holders is part of tribal history and would be a wonderful to add to your collection or to give as a gift in your collection.
