This plastic doll, known as Clonette, was born during the colonial era and was initially made in Ghana. This dolls come in multiple colors, and made out of recycled plastic and are primarily female. It was the first mass-produced doll in Africa and can still be found on markets today. Traditionally, there are rituals associated with it, including the belief that proper care for the doll can ensure fertility and survival of children. In many African cultures parents make or buy dolls to give to their children. It is said that a girl who likes playing with dolls in her childhood will have many children.
