This is an Old and unique Silver Labba Necklace from Yemen. The Labba is a particular type of bib necklace made of several interconnected silver elements that cover the neck and sometimes part of the chest as well. In this necklace, the top part is made of square elements with red glass beads at their center and several coral glass beads on the sides. Red is thought to be a protective color and as such is used widely in Bedouin jewelry. The bottom of the Labba necklace has several dangles hanging from loops. Each loop is supposed to hold a double chain ending in a bell like pendant. As the wearer moves, a soft jingling sound is made by these dangles. Noise is thought to drive djin (evil spirits) away. The early designs and techniques continue to be replicated throughout Central Asia even today, and have been emulated for centuries. The Labba Necklace is adorned with a silver chain. This silver is not sterling. This would be a wonderful gift to give that special someone. This necklace is beautiful and rich in culture. This necklace is missing one coral bead.
