This is a wonderful Woven Pectoral Men's Ornament from the Washkuk area, Middle Sepik Region , Papua New Guinea. This pectoral ornament is constructed from bush materials and worn as an adornment, traded or used as a brides price, status or a wealth object. The band that goes around the neck with Cowrie shells has a loop fastener in the back, and their are small round Conus shells for eyes and Nassa shells around the ornament. This type of pectoral ornament would be worn by a senior society member. These ornaments are all individually made by and for the specific men and worn and traded with pride. Today they are still very valuable and priced ornaments by the tribal men.
