These are a pair of Vintage African Metal Dance Ankle Rattles on Sisal Cord from the Kamba people of Kenya. The most spectacular manifestation of Kamba culture is the traditional dance. It is characterized by some exceptional leaping, flinging dancers in the air and acrobatics of other kinds. These dance rattles are made of an oval metal sheet folded and resembling a banana fruit and was filled with bullets, which produced musical sound according to the movements of the person wearing them. It was fastened around the ankle with a strap. They were worn only during special occasions, such as war dances and initiation ceremonies. These Kamba Ankle Rattles are a really unique and would be a wonderful addition to your collection. Field collected, shows age, and finding a pair is very rare.
