This is a lovely Black Wood and Fiber wrapped Ancestor Dance Mask from the North Coast of the Lower Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. This mask has the classic beaked nose and diagonal eyes which is indicative to the Lower Sepik Region. This beautiful Dance Mask is used for extensive periods of time for village ceremonies and initiations. When danced the ancestor spirits are responsible for the success of important ceremonies, activities, such as hunting, fishing and warfare.
