This is an old beautiful Beaded Collar from Xhosa Tribal people of Eastern Cape Region of South Africa. The Xhosa have a history of bead. This flat circular band collar with single mother of pearl button enclosure. Openwork bands in varying widths of color from outside inwards, starting with pink, and blue, and ending with a twisted edge of white and black beads. The Ithembu collar is the foundation of all adult Xhosa beaded costume, with one or more collars or necklaces worn over it.

Xhosa people’s of South Africa each create jewelry using beads but each has its own distinctive cultural meanings and forms.
