This is an old One of a Kind Fabulous Hand Painted and Hand Tooled Leather Tuareg Saddle Bag from Mali. Tuareg are a Berber people with a traditionally nomadic Pastoral lifestyle. They are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa, in the Saharan parts of Niger, Mali, and Algeria. Being nomadic, they on the move with their herds and camels over vast areas of the southern Sahara. The Tuareg are also know for their exquisite craftsmanship in working with leather. This big type of leather bag the Tuareg call ‘Taseihat’. This large bag has a rather small neck-opening centrally at the top. This bag is what the Tuareg, on their journey through the Sahara, fill with their household goods and their personal belongings in and then hang the full ‘Taseihat’ on the camel’s saddle.
