This is a wonderful old carved Black Buffalo Horn Rice Scoop with a Carved Top Handle. Spoons and scoops bare all the different tones and shadows a buffalo horn can have. The buffalo horn as a material has a beautiful transparency and veins of different browns (when you look at it in the sunlight) reminiscent of turtle shell. These are unique, superb and decorative primitive tools as well as being extremely practical. They wash easily. This piece was hand-carved very intricately out of one buffalo horn in Indonesia and carries great traditional significance as both the buffalo and rice, that these used to serve, were essential sources of sustenance for the people. This would be a fabulous item for your collection.
