This is an Old Red and Blue Dyed Bush Twine and Shell Armband from the Iatmul People, Middle Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. Armbands are worn only by men of status in a village. This Armband consists of woven twine with small Nassa Shells and Cowries Shells. Shells were currency in Papua New Guinea. This armband is significant and important to the man who created it and wore it. This status arm band would be a wonderful addition to your home or collection.
