One of the most characteristic types of Tami style objects are the wooden Items, such a bowls and spoons that are made on the Siassi Islands for trade and local purposes and that are used as commodities in a trade network that links the Siassi with mainland New Guinea and New Britain. This beautiful burnished ladle has incised relief work on both sides of the handle and on the front of the ladle with the traditional Siassi clan markings and designs. This stirring ladle is a valued item and was used during ceremonial village feasts and became an essential part of the traditional bride price.
