This is gorgeous Carved and Incised Burnished Siassi Spoon or ladle from Siassi Island, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. One of the most characteristic types of Tami style objects are the wooden Items, such a bowls and spoons that are made on the Siassi Islands for trade and local purposes and that are used as commodities in a trade network that links the Siassi with mainland New Guinea and New Britain. This beautiful burnished spoon or ladle has carved faces on both sides with the traditional Siassi clan markings and designs. This spoon is a valued item and was used during ceremonial village feasts and became an essential part of the traditional bride price.
