This is a One of a Kind Black Pigment Wood Double Face Mask from Barak or Boiken Tribe from Turubu Region of East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. This mask has been painted with black earth pigments several times for ceremonial use. This unique Wood mask has a narrow elongated form with a chin tapering to a point. It is extremely hollowed and constricted underneath the eye area with pierced eyes flanking a raised middle ridge. On top of the ridge sits another face mask, and their are piercings in the ears for attachments. The elongated nose underneath has a bow-shaped projection, representing a spirit. Within the Lower Sepik area, it is generally accepted that long pointed noses represent spiritual beings while short naturalistic ones portray true ancestors.
