This is a nice bronze hanging Oil Lamp from Turkey. An oil lamp is an object used to produce light continuously for a period of time using an oil-based fuel source. The use of oil lamps began thousands of years ago and continues to this day, although not commonly used anymore. Oil lamps are a form of lighting, and were used as an alternative to candles before the use of electric lights. This Oil Lamp was used by putting oil inside the pot, then ignite the oil, hence a light. When the light was no longer needed, it would be extinguished by putting on the lid. This oil lamp is great in design and can be displayed by by a hook. A wonderful addition to your collection or to your home.
