This is a wonderful and unique Ethiopian Leather Kitab Necklace with African Yellow Stripped Sand Cast Beads, Wood and Brass Tubes all strung on a black leather cord. The Kitab was used by the Oromo People of Ethiopia.
Each of kitab contains a Christian prayer and sometimes images of angels and saints. They are written on vellum or parchment, and they were stitched sealed inside the leather to give protection and good health to the wearer. They were made to be worn around the neck as a pendant. Kitab's were worn for a man's lifetime, and written specially for that individual. This cord necklace was part of the Bacara Jewelry Collection of 25 years ago.
