This is a Vintage African Drum from Zambia. Drums are among the most important art forms in Africa, used both as a musical instrument and as a work of sculpture significant in many ceremonial functions, including dance, rituals, story-telling and communication of messages. The head of the drum is leather and it is intact, sort of playable. The drums are essential for most of the traditional dances. The Ngoma is the generic central African term for drum but Zambian drums come in a variety of shapes, sizes and purposes. These drums have specific names depending on their tribal origins and functional roles. This is a wonderful and unique drum and would be a wonderful addition to your collection.
