This is a Vintage Woven Rattan Rice Basket and Lid that rests on a Bamboo Frame. The basket comes from Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. There are few cupboard or cabinets in Lombok villages, so baskets were created to store food such as rice and trinkets. This particular basket was used to store rice or used for coffee picking. Baskets are used for everyday utilitarian purposes. This basket is strong, but yet lightweight and very portable. The necessary materials are available from the field and forests. This basket would be lovely as home decor or to add to your collection.
