This is a magnificent Male Intricately Carved Wood Chief's Chair from the Luguru Tribal People in East Tanzania. Among the Luguru in East Tanzania these chairs with high rest carved in human shape are reserved for chiefs only. The present throne of a chief of the Luguru is made out of a of a single piece of hard, heavy wood, and colored black and brown. The important, high back rest displays the abstract shape of a man. The round seat rests on three legs sit very balanced and are decorated with intricate linear patterns. on the front and back of the chair. The seat bottoms are wide providing ample sitting room. These chairs are especially carved for chiefs and are often referred to as chief's chairs, or thrones. They were used during judicial and initiation ceremonies. This would be fabulous addition to your collection or home.
