This Hand Carved beautiful Round Burnished Carved Buffalo and Bulul Face Wood Star Bowl with two special serving places created by the Ifugao people of Ifugao Province,Central Island of Luzon, Philippines. This bowl and others like it would have played an important part in everyday Ifugao life. Most ordinary folk ate their rice out of a common bowl or dished out into small, plain personal bowls, but men of high status among the Ifugao eat from carved wooden bowls. The bowls are usually round and carved out of a cross section of a tree trunk called Yemane (Gmelina) wood. Ifugao wood bowls were made in various sizes, some with scalloped edges and they are referred to as a Star Bowls . This bowl is very unique, because it has the bulul face, and head buffalo attached to it and and is carved in the star motif, and was used for rituals or or sacred ceremonies. The patina was created from years of use and polishing. These bowls were used, among other things, in rituals to ask for blessings on pending activities, such as a harvest or hunt. The bowls can be displayed or used in your homes, but either way they are beautiful in craftsmanship from the Ifugao People of the Philippines.
