Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a lovely and simple carved Ifugao Coconut Bowl used for eating rice or even drinking wine rice from the Ifugao people of the Province, Central Island of Luzon, Philippines. This bowl and others like it would have played an important part in everyday Ifugao life. Most ordinary folk ate their rice out of a common bowl or dished out into small, plain personal bowls, but men of high status among the Ifugao eat from carved wooden bowls. Sometimes a coconut shell cup would be used by priests for ceremonial rice wine drinking during ritual occasions. These bowls are carved and shaped out of a half of coconut. They could also be used at feasts where common plain bowls were used in their households. This coconut bowl is just the right size to eat rice out of as well due to its size and can easily be transported with them in the field or on hunting journeys. The dark patina was created from years of use and polishing. This bowl would be a wonderful addition to your collection or home.
