This is a Vintage Ornate Carved Wood Large Ceremonial Ladle/Dipper from the Murik Lakes Region, Papua New Guinea. This wood ladle/dipper is attached to the handle with fiber and used in ceremonial rituals with women and rights of passage. The ladle/dipper has deep incised carving and relief work with ceremonial clan symbols. This ladle/dipper is considered a very valuable item and is handed down through generations, of mother to daughter. The ritual takes place as a cleansing and considered sacred.
