This is a Fabulous Painted Red, Green and Blue Dance Wand with a Carved Yellow Spotted Lizard and a Carved Brown Fish from the Tolai Tribal People of East new Britain. Painted wooden wands such as this are carried by the Tolai people during dances and ceremonial performances. The dance wands form one part of the Tolai ceremonial paraphernalia that is collectively known as Pokopoko. When in use the wands are given the name Bair and are carried one in each in each hand by male performers. Most Bair have serrated edges and sometimes attached feathers or raffia. They are and only called Bair when in use. When not in use the Bair inside are kept inside a sacred house. This Tolai Dance Stick is a wonderful part of the Oceanic culture and would compliment your collection or home.
