This is a wonderful Woven Rattan Basket Food Plate from the Ifugao people of the Luzon Cordillera Range of the Philippines. For centuries, basketry formed an essential part of all aspects of daily life in this area, and the Ifugao are known for their craftsmanship in basketry. Baskets range in form and size. This particular basket serves as a food plate or bowl that is used in Ifugao households, as well as a plate that is easily transportable if necessary. Basketry is gender specific among some groups, but, both Ifugao men and women engage in basket making. Baskets are made of bamboo, rattan, or a combination of the two.
